Those to whom We had already given Scripture believe in [the Quran] and so do some of these people. No one refuses to acknowledge Our revelations but the defiant. ### Marmaduke Pickthall In like manner We have revealed unto thee the Scripture, and those unto whom We gave the Scripture aforetime will believe therein; and of these (also) there are some who believe therein. And none deny Our revelations save the disbelievers. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali And thus (it is) that We have sent down the Book to thee. So the People of the Book believe therein, as also do some of these (pagan Arabs): and none but Unbelievers reject our signs. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (O Prophet), thus have We bestowed the Book on you.[1] So those on whom We had bestowed the Book before believe in it,[2] and of these (Arabs) too a good many believe in it.[3] It is none but the utter unbelievers who deny Our Signs.[4] _Dipnotlar_ - [1] This can have two meanings: - [2] (1) Just as We had sent down the Books to the former Prophets, so We have sent down this Book to you; and - [3] (2) We have sent down this Book with the teaching that it should be believed in not by rejecting Our former Books but by affirming faith in all of them. - [4] The context itself shows that this does not imply all the people of the Book but only those who were blessed with the right understanding and the knowledge of the divine scriptures, and were the people of the Book in the true sense. When this last Book of Allah came before them, confirming His earlier Books, they did not show any stubbornness or obstinacy but accepted it sincerely as they had accepted the previous Books. ### Taqi Usmani Thus We have sent down the Book to you. So those to whom We have given the Book believe in it. And from these (the people of Makkah) there are ones who believe in it, and no one rejects Our verses except the infidels. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And thus We have sent down the Book (i.e. this Qur’an) to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and those whom We gave the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) aforetime] believe therein as also do some of these (who are present with you now like ‘Abdullâh bin Salâm)[1] and none but the disbelievers reject Our Ayât [(proofs, signs, verses, lessons, etc.,) and deny Our Oneness of Lordship and Our Oneness of worship and Our Oneness of Our Names and Qualities: i.e. Islâmic Monotheism]. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Similarly ˹to earlier messengers˺, We have revealed to you a Book ˹O Prophet˺. ˹The faithful of˺ those to whom We gave the Scriptures believe in it, as do some of these ˹pagan Arabs˺. And none denies Our revelations except the ˹stubborn˺ disbelievers. ### E. Henry Palmer Thus did we send down to thee the Book; and every one to whom we have given the Book believes therein. But these will not believe therein; though none gainsay our signs except the misbelievers. ### Mahmoud Ghali And thus We have sent down to you the Book. And it is only the ungrateful (disbelievers) who deny Our revelations deliberately and persistently. ### Arthur John Arberry Even so We have sent down to thee the Book. And this due recognition is shared by some of your people. And no one denies Our divine discourse and rejects Our revelations but the infidels who deny Allah. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And thus We have sent down to you the Qur'an. And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture believe in it. And among these [people of Makkah] are those who believe in it. And none reject Our verses except the disbelievers. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And like this We have sent down the Book to you. So that the People of the Book believe in it, as some of these (pagan Arabs) also believe: And no one but unbelievers reject Our Signs. ### Shabbir Ahmed And thus it is!
