Muhammed'e tâbi olmanın zorunlu olduğuna özellikle bir göndermenin yapıldığı apaçık bir gerçekliktir; çünkü peygambersiz bir din anlayışı imkânsızdır ve dinsizliktir. Bu nedenle ayette hem vahye yani Kur'an'a hem de onu tebliğ edip yaşayarak ümmetine örnek olan Hz. Muhammed'e tâbi olunması emredilmektedir. Elçi'ye itaatin onu elçi kılan Allah'a itaat olduğunda kuşku yoktur. Bunun yolu ise Elçi'nin beraberinde getirmiş olduğu ilahi mesaja yani Kur'an'a uymakla mümkün olabilir.
