They were under two of our righteous slaves, but they both betrayed them (their husbands by rejecting their doctrine). So they [Nûh (Noah) and Lût (Lot) عليهما السلام] availed them (their respective wives) not against Allâh and it was said: "Enter the Fire along with those who enter!" ### Abdul Haleem God has given examples of disbelievers: the wives of Noah and Lot who married two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them. Their husbands could not help them against God: it was said, ‘Both of you enter the Fire with the others.’ ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Allah has set forth for the unbelievers the parable of the wives of Noah and Lot. They were wedded to two of Our righteous servants, but each acted treacherously with her husband,[1] and their husbands could be of no avail to them against Allah. The two of them were told: "Enter the Fire with all the others who enter it." _Dipnotlar_ - [1] This betrayal was not in the sense that they had committed an indecency but in the sense that they did not follow the Prophets Noah and Lot (peace be upon them) on the way of faith but sided with their enemies against them. Ibn Abbas say: No Prophet’s wife has ever been wicked and immoral. The betrayal of these two women in fact was in the matter of faith and religion. They did not acknowledge the religion of the Prophets Noah and Lot (peace be upon them). The Prophet Noah’s wife used to convey news about the believers to the wicked of her people, and the Prophet Lot’s wife used to inform the immoral people about those who visited him in his house. (Ibn Jarir). ### Marmaduke Pickthall Allah citeth an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot, who were under two of Our righteous slaves yet betrayed them so that they (the husbands) availed them naught against Allah and it was said (unto them): Enter the Fire along with those who enter. ### Taqi Usmani Allah has cited for the disbelievers the example of the wife of NūH and the wife of LūT. Both were married with two of Our righteous servants, but betrayed them. So they could not benefit them against Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire along with those who enter." ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Allah sets forth an example for the disbelievers: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. Each was married to one of Our righteous servants, yet betrayed them.[1] So their husbands were of no benefit to them against Allah whatsoever. Aziz Allah sets forth an example to those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot: they were both under two of Our righteous servants, but they were false towards them so they (the husbands) availed them naught against Allah, and it was said, "Enter you the Fire with those (others) who enter it. ### Bijan Moeinian God, hereby, gives the disbelievers as an example the life story of the wives of Noah and Lot. They had the honor of being married to two of My righteous servants; but they did not follow their husbands’ way of faith and sided with their enemies against them. Their husbands, naturally, can not help them all against the God. On the Day of Judgment, these women will be told: "Enter the Fire along with those who are condemned to Hellfire." ### Amatul Rahman Omar Allâh compares those who disbelieve to the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were both under (the wedlock of) two of Our righteous servants but acted treacherously towards them both. So they (- Noah and Lot) could do nothing to save them from (the punishment of) Allâh. And it was said to them, `Enter you both into the (Hell) Fire along with those (of your category) who enter therein. ### Mahmoud Ghali Allah has struck a similitude (i. e., bad example) for the ones who have disbelieved: the wife of Nûh, (Noah) and the wife of Lût (Lot). They were under two righteous bondmen of Our bondmen, yet they betrayed them. So they (Both husbands) did not avail them anything whatever before (Literally: from) Allah; and it was said to (the two wives): "Enter you two the Fire with the ones who enter." ### E. Henry Palmer God strikes out a parable to those who misbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot; they were under two of our righteous servants, but they betrayed them: and they availed them nothing against God; and it was said, 'Enter the fire with those who enter. ' ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira God advances the example of Noah's wife and the wife of Lot for those who do not believe. They were married to Our two pious devotees, but they were unfaithful to them, and even (the apostles) could not avail them in the least against God; and it was said to them: "Enter Hell with those (who are condemned) to enter it." ### Muhammad Asad For those who are bent on denying the truth God has propounded a parable in [the stories of] Noah's wife and Lot's wife: they were wedded to two of Our righteous servants, and each one betrayed her husband; and neither of the two [husbands] will be of any avail to these two women when they are told [on Judgment Day], "Enter the fire with all those [other sinners] who enter it!" ### Shabbir Ahmed Allah cites an example for those who deny the Truth. The wife of Noah and the wife of Lot, they were wedded to two of Our righteous servants yet each one betrayed her husband so that neither of them (their husbands) could avail them at all against Allah. And it was said, "Enter the Fire along with others who enter it." ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Allah cites an example of those who live with false standards in an ads' atmosphere of piety: the wife of Nuh (Noah) and that of Lut (Lot). They were the two mates who lived their wifehood under two of Our devout worshippers, but they proved false to the trust and to those who trusted them, and so their husbands could not save them from the fatal consequence requited by Allah, and it was said to them: "Take up your abode in Hell with those so destined". ### Syed Vickar Ahamed Allah has set forth, for an example to the unbelievers, the wife of Nuh (Noah), and the wife of Lut (Lot); They were each under two of Our righteous servants, but they were untrue to their (husbands), and they gained nothing before Allah on their account, but they were told: "You enter the Fire along with (others) who enter!" ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot.
