Surely in that there are signs for those who give heed (to the call of the Messenger).[1] _Dipnotlar_ - [1] This is a concise statement of a very important subject and requires a detailed explanation. The Quran declares in a few words that all religions other than the revealed one are false because they have been founded on the philosophical research for the primary cause of the origin of the universe. The philosophical research is after all based on guesswork, and is in its very nature incapable of reaching to the truth. The right way of arriving at the truth is to make a study of the signs (e.g. day and night) and of the Message of the Prophets in a dispassionate manner. For this is the only way of discovering the truth. Otherwise, if one follows wrong ways, he shall always arrive at wrong conclusions. Let us now consider several methods that different people have adopted in search of this knowledge: ### Taqi Usmani He is the One who made for you the night, so that you may have rest in it, and (made) the day to see. Indeed, there are signs therein for a people who listen. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran He is the One Who has made the night for you to rest in and the day bright. Surely in this are signs for people who listen. ### Arthur John Arberry It is He who made for you the night to repose in it, and the day, to see; surely in that are signs for a people who have ears. ### Bijan Moeinian God is the One Who created the night so that you rest and brightened up the day. Those who listen, find the Lord’s signs in these [taken for granted] phenomena. ### Hamid S. Aziz Lo! Is it not unto Allah that belongs whoever is in the heavens and whoever is in the earth? What then do they follow who call on associates other than Allah? Verily, they follow nothing but fantasy, and verily, they do naught but lie (or guess). ### E. These are phenomena emblematic indeed of Allah's Omnipotence and Authority, phenomena that are appreciated and faithfully recognized by people who bow down their ears to the truth. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) It is He who made for you the night to rest therein and the day, giving sight. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen. ### Shabbir Ahmed He it is Who made night for you to rest in, and made the day lighted to make things visible to you.
